Why Is It Called Whimsi Design Studio Instead of Winston Design Studio?

By Winston, Chief Dog Officer of Whimsi Design Studio
Hello again, friends.
Now that I have officially introduced myself and provided everyone with my very impressive résumé, I believe it is time to address an important company matter.
Possibly the most important matter facing Whimsi Design Studio today.
Why is this company called Whimsi Design Studio instead of Winston Design Studio?
And while we are discussing the matter, Whimsi isn’t even spelled the traditional way—for paw’s sake.
Mom says spelling it with an “i” gives the name personality and makes it distinctively hers.
I say Winston was already spelled correctly, had plenty of personality, and was readily available.
This entire situation could have been avoided.
The Official Story According to Mom
Before Whimsi Design Studio existed, Mom had already been using the name Whimsi in her creative work.
She originally chose it when she was creating sublimation designs. She wanted a name that felt playful and creative, and she spelled Whimsi with an “i” instead of the traditional “y” to give it a little personality of its own.
Since then, the kind of work she creates has changed quite a bit. She has explored new ideas, learned new skills, and followed her creativity in several different directions.
But through all those changes, the name Whimsi stayed with her.
It simply became part of her creative story.
So when Mom created a brand devoted to dog moms and the joy of sharing life with dogs, Whimsi Design Studio felt like a natural name to carry forward.
That is Mom’s explanation.
It is perfectly reasonable.
It is also completely unrelated to the fact that Winston Design Studio would have been an excellent name.
A Missed Branding Opportunity
When Mom decided to create a shop celebrating dog moms, she had the perfect opportunity to reconsider the company name.
She had a real dog.
A handsome dog.
A published children’s book character.
A dog with executive experience, two different-colored eyes, excellent pillow-testing skills, and a very recognizable face.
In other words, she had me.
Imagine the possibilities:

I would even have agreed to pose for the company logo—as long as the photo session was brief and refreshments were provided.
Unfortunately, I was not consulted.
Mom simply chose Whimsi Design Studio and appointed me Chief Dog Officer afterward.
This feels like a major failure in the order of operations.
What Whimsi Means Today
I have spent a considerable amount of time considering this matter—usually while lying on Mom’s pillows as she works.
I have concluded that Whimsi is more than a name Mom chose when her creative journey began.
For Whimsi Design Studio, it now represents the creativity, laughter, determination, and love Mom puts into celebrating life with dogs and the people who adore them.
It is about morning walks before the coffee has fully started working.
It is fur on clothes that were clean approximately five minutes ago.
It is cancelled plans because the dog looks especially comfortable.
It is quiet evenings with a warm, snoring body curled up nearby.
It is muddy paws, wagging tails, stolen snacks, and unconditional love.
It is also about the little moments that may seem ordinary at the time but eventually become some of our favorite memories.
That is what Whimsi Design Studio celebrates.
It is joyful without needing to be perfect.
It is meaningful without taking itself too seriously.
It is full of personality, heart, and occasionally a little mischief.
Now that I think about it, that description sounds remarkably similar to someone I know.
My Official Position on the Matter
After careful review, I have decided to allow Mom to keep the name Whimsi Design Studio.
For now.
The name was already part of her creative journey, and it still carries the heart of everything she wants this little corner of the world to represent.
I suppose a company does not have to bear my name for me to leave my paw prints all over it.
Besides, I already have Winston’s Corner.
My name is in the website menu.
My photograph is displayed throughout the company.
I appear in two published children’s books.
I have my own blog.
And I am still negotiating the terms of a company snack budget.
So perhaps things have turned out reasonably well.
Still, if Mom ever opens another division, I would like it officially recorded that Winston Design Studio remains available.
Unlike Whimsi, it is even spelled the traditional way.
I have already approved it.

Behind-the-Scenes Note: As Chief Dog Officer, Winston is far too busy—and far too unwilling to sit still—for lengthy photo shoots. Occasionally, his AI stand-in, Fred, helps bring his stories to life using real photographs of Winston as a reference. Winston would like it clearly understood that Fred receives none of the executive privileges, credit, or snacks.
